Young people today are increasingly looking for ways to work in a way that gives them the freedom to manage their own time. Karl Markus Kurs, an ambitious young man, has found the perfect solution with GoWorkaBit, Estonia’s largest job search and flexible work portal. GoWorkaBit allows you to do one-off job hops as well as apply for a permanent flexible work team, or Hub, with your employer. This way you get all the benefits of permanent work, but you still have flexibility over the number and frequency of your working days. It’s ideal for young people who need a job but don’t want to or can’t commit to full-time work or long contracts.
For Markus, this platform led him to Foxway, an innovative company dedicated to recycling and extending the life of electronic equipment. It’s a great example of how a flexible way of working can open doors to interesting and modern fields.
Why GoWorkaBit and flexible working?
“I decided to join GoWorkaBit because I just wanted to find a job somewhere,” says Markus directly. Finding a full-time job wasn’t easy, so he had to think about more flexible solutions. That’s where GoWorkaBit came in. “I chose flexible working because there was no other option,” Markus admits, but adds that it turned out to be a better choice than he initially expected. Working through GoWorkaBit has provided him with opportunities that help balance his work and personal life and give him the chance to work when it suits his schedule.
Workday at Foxways – interesting and varied
A typical day at Foxway is routine, but just the kind of day that suits him. “I arrive at 8:30am, greet the team leaders, sign for the chip and get to work,” he says. Although the work may seem repetitive, for Markus every day is interesting and different. He mainly works on phones, troubleshooting and solving their problems. “Every phone has different problems, and I identify what they are. So far, there hasn’t been a dull day at work,” he adds.
Markus enjoys the specifics of his job and the challenges he faces every day. Even when he is working mainly on his own, he knows that he can always call on the help of his supervisors. “If you raise your hand, they will come to help. But I like to go to the supervisors myself – it gives me a chance to stretch my legs,” he says humorously.
New skills and future perspectives
Even though Markus hasn’t worked much in the past, the skills he has already acquired at Foxway will be valuable for his future. “I’ve gained professional knowledge that I hope will come in handy when I’m working at Foxway for a long time to come,” he says. Although his future plans are not yet clear, Markus believes that any work experience and skills development will come in handy in the future.
“I’ve had a sense of responsibility all my life, but the diligence has definitely improved here at Foxways,” he adds. The skills and knowledge he applies in his day-to-day work will definitely help him in other areas of his life in the future.
Work-life balance – the perfect combination
For Markus, one of the biggest advantages of flexible working is the possibility to balance work and private life. He admits that work reminds him of his school days, but without wasting time and energy on the unimportant. “Whereas at school we spent most of our time studying something that seemed pointless, at Foxway every little detail matters,” he says. Markus feels that even though he works more than he has free time, it doesn’t overwhelm him. Working with a friend makes everything even more enjoyable and the working days go by quickly.
Workamps give him the freedom to work when it suits him best, while allowing him to focus on other important aspects of his life. Markus gets satisfaction from knowing that his work is helping to improve the environment by extending the life of electronic equipment and contributing to its recycling.
